The Project of Pakistan Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Phase I (CHASNUPP C-1), a 300 MWe nuclear power plant, is the first commercial nuclear power plant exported which is self-designed and self-constructed by China its own. It was the largest export project with complete-set equipment of high technology in China at that time.
The main milestone targets of CHASNUPP C-1 are as follows:
1. China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) signed a contract for the export of a 300MWe nuclear power plant to Pakistan on Dec.31st of 1991 in Beijing;
2. On Feb.25th of 1992, the contract of the Project of Pakistan Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Phase I came into effect upon the approval of the governments of China and Pakistan;
3. On Oct.23rd of 1992, China Zhongyuan Engineering Corporation, on the behalf of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), signed a contract with Zhongyuan Construction Corporation of China Nuclear Industry for civil work and installation of the Project of Pakistan Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Phase I;
4. On Aug.1st of 1993, the first concrete pouring of Nuclear Island base plate of the Project of Pakistan Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Phase I was done, which signified the smooth kick-off of the main part of the project;
5. On Nov.6th of 1995, the dome ring of Nuclear Island of the Project of Pakistan Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Phase I was hoisted into the place;
6. On Nov.21st of 1995, the dome placement of Nuclear Island of the Project of Pakistan Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Phase I was successfully realized, which stands for the transition of the Project from the stage of civil work as the priority to the stage of installation as the priority;
7. On Aug.27th of 1998, the main loop water pressure testing of the reactor of the Project of Pakistan Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Phase I was completed and the project entered into the stage of system commissioning;
8. On Dec.14th of 1998, the first non-nuclear steam start rolling of turbine of the Pakistan Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Phase I was succeeded, which signified the basic completion of construction installation work;
9. On Jun.13th of 2000, the Pakistan Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Phase I was formally built up and grid-connected;
10. In Sep.2000, the Pakistan Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Phase I was handed over to Pakistan and put into commercial operation. The operation of it is in a good condition at present.
The Pakistan Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Phase I has been spoken highly by the relevant departments and leaders of the governments of China and Pakistan, which is a positive contribution being made to the “south-south cooperation” between China and the developing countries in the field of high technology.
The success of the construction of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant is a rich fruit of the cooperation between China and Pakistan, which is reputed as the excellent example of “south-south cooperation” between China and Pakistan. A good safety index and operational record has been maintained of CHASNUPP C-1 since being putting into commercial operation, which has gained a high evaluation from IAEA and has laid a solid foundation for the further cooperation between China and Pakistan in the field of peaceful utilization of nuclear energy.
